Wood Burning Fire Pits

If you’re looking for an authentic campfire atmosphere, a wood burning fire pit is a good way to go.   The smoky smell and the popping and crackling of the wood helps the bustling world around you fall away.  Life is good when you’re roasting marshmallows and laughing with your friends and family around the fire.

Wood Burning Pros

  • Larger fires
  • Wood is inexpensive
  • Affordable to install
  • Enhanced ambiance

Wood Burning Cons

  • Starting a fire takes effort and can be time-consuming
  • Cleaning up ashes after fire and can also be time consuming
  • Blowing smoke

Natural Gas Fire Pits

Natural gas fire pits give you the warm, glowing ambience we enjoy when gathered around a fire with the ease of flipping a switch. Natural gas is a much cleaner burn and creates less smoke and flying sparks, making it great option for environments where children are present or for those bothered by smoke.

Natural Gas Pros

  • Light or extinguish fire with the flip of a switch
  • Minimal to no cleanup
  • Adds relaxing ambiance with minimal effort
  • Cleaner burn, less smoke

Natural Gas Cons

  • Smaller fires
  • Gas line must be installed
  • More expensive than wood

Fire Pit with Fire Glass

Fire Glass

Looking to add a little pizzaz to your fire pit or fireplace?  Fire glass creates a stunning look and is easy to work with.  This heat tempered glass is processed through a tumbler to prevent sharp edges.  Because it doesn’t burn or break down, you can use them for years.  Fire Glass is used to replace gas logs. The glass will instantly transform your living space with flames dancing above the dazzling fire glass.

Fire Glass Pros

  • No toxic fumes, smoke, ash, or soot
  • Multiple sizes and colors of fire glass for you to choose from.
  • Tempered glass chips last longer, do not burn, melt, or discolor.
  • Radiate 3-4 times more heat with its reflective surface than wood or ceramic logs.

Fire Glass Cons

  • As with all glass products, there is the risk of breaking pieces if mishandled. When re-installing after moving, there may be some glass sediment or broken pieces at the bottom of your container.

Choosing the Perfect Fire Pit for Your Backyard

One of the things I love about spending time outdoors is enjoying time with my family and friends around a campfire.  The ambiance a warm fire creates is cozy and inviting. Everyone is laughing and telling stories and hot dogs and s’mores  are being cooked over the flames.  It’s a relaxing atmosphere; one that everyone can enjoy.

These days you don’t have to trek out to the woods or a campground in order to have a campfire, you can have one in your own backyard.  Fire pits are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners.  They not only add convenience but provide a way to enjoy longer periods of time in the outdoors during cooler weather.  After deciding you would like to place a fire pit in your backyard, you’ll want to determine whether you’ll want a permanent or portable fire pit.

Portable or Permanent?

Portable fire pits can be moved to any location you choose and can be removed from your backyard completely if you find yourself needing more space.  While having the ability to move your fire pit around may be quite convenient, pay attention to the size or style before you make a purchase. Many are quite large and heavy, making it difficult to move them from one location to another.

A permanent fire pit can be built to your specifications.  Often people will integrate it into the design of their outdoor living space, creating decorative landscape features or beautiful focal points.  The design can be as simple or elaborate as you choose.  Many homeowners choose to place their fire pit in a corner or along the edge of their patio, allowing them to keep the area open and functional.

Wood Burning or Gas?

Both portable and permanent fire pits offer the option to use gas or wood for your fire.  Gas provides a convenient way to manage your fire, allowing it to light instantly.  You can also turn off the fire when you’re ready to go in without having to wait for the fire to die down and embers to cool.  However, gas can be a bit costly and may not provide the size and warmth of a wood burning flame.

Using wood for your fire pit, with the crackling sound and smoky scent, provides that authentic campfire atmosphere. Wood is inexpensive and provides large, warm flames – which warm a larger space.  However, wood can take longer to light and you’ll want to stay outside until the fire has gone out and the embers have cooled.

Fire Pit Glass

A Creative Option

A gas equipped fire pit can be supplied with lava rocks or glowing glass fire rocks.  Glowing glass comes in a variety of colors and creates a unique show for your family and guests.

Take some time to consider what options are best for you and your lifestyle.  Which takes precedence – convenience, cost effectiveness, versatility?  For years to come, your fire pit can help create many delightful memories. Let your imagination run free.  Create the space of your dreams and enjoy your backyard to the fullest.

See you in the Backyard!
